You are loved

Thank you all so much for your kind words today, both here and in emails or on twitter, it definitely brought on the tears, but it was so great to hear from you all. I also got this lovely spool in the mail from Shanna Murray today (along with a super sweet vase that I'll show you soon), and the timing was just perfect. It's something we all need to hear now and then, you know?

Goodbye Grayling

It was a bit of a rough weekend around our place as our older cat Grayling took a major turn for the worst. Despite lots of plans, we ended up spending the weekend in hanging out with him and keeping him as comfortable as we possibly could. It was so tough eventually letting him go, he was such an affectionate and loyal cat that our house seems a little emptier now. Poor Ursula keeps running around looking for him! In the end we're so thankful for being able to see him at peace, and to have had him with us for as long as we did.

Thanks so much to all of you who sent your well wishes and good thoughts our way, hug your pets and loved ones tight for us!

Happy Friday!

French toast with raspberry preserves and blackberries, from here

We're having people over for a potluck brunch tomorrow, and along with some yummy fruits and pancakes I'm thinking I might try making some vegan french toast. It is hands down my favourite brunch food (although is sometimes tied with something more savoury like a root hash or the polenta from Rhizome. Ok, I just really like brunch) but I have yet to try making my own vegan version of it. I'll admit I'm a little afraid that I'll be disappointed with an egg-free version but I've got some soft and crusty bread so should probably just give it a go!

I hope you all have lovely weekends, any exciting plans? I'm going to a gardening class on Sunday with a friend, can't wait!

WIP Wednesday: Tea Time, a break in a productive day.

Today is my day off from my day jobs and let me tell you, I've been getting stuff done! Crossing things off a to-do list is so satisfying, don't you think? Right now I'm taking a quick tea break, nibbling on these Chewy Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies (with some vegan white chocolate we picked up at Karmavore, they're pretty sweet though so I think I'll halve the sugar next time) and listening to a CBC podcast on Jean-Michel Basquiat. I'm sitting at my writing desk in our bedroom and looking out over a grey and gloomy Vancouver, enjoying being inside with the lights on and feeling cozy. When I was little one of my most favourite things was being at school on a rainy day and having the lights on during the daytime, it seemed both cozy and exciting at the same time, like being out after dark. Soon we'll be heading off to meet some friends and go on a tour of our neighbourhood, Chinatown, one of Vancouver's oldest neighbourhoods. Laundromats and pawnshops, I'm excited!
